Approved the Report on the development prospects of the common European defence: "Cyber domain growth opportunities for Europe. We need technological cooperation" 28 Jul 2022 F. Me.
Cyber defence strategic priority of the EU. This is one of the key points highlighted by Copasir in the Report on the prospects for the development of the common European defence and cooperation between the intelligence services, rapporteur Enrico Borghi. "In the development of a common European defence, a particular opportunity is represented by the cyber domain, which has only recently entered the priorities of military organisations and therefore free from those historical, economic and administrative stratifications that in traditional domains make it more difficult to adopt a shared approach between the Armed Forces of the Member States", reads the Report. "Our country can and must play an important role in this context, thus not neglecting the cyber defense piece in the context of the cybersecurity strategy – it is highlighted – Also with regard to aerospace, included by the Strategic compass among the domains of strategic importance, Italy can provide an important contribution by virtue of the high level of specialization of the national industry in this field". Also with regard to aerospace, included by the Strategic compass among the domains of strategic importance, Italy can provide an important contribution by virtue of the high level of specialization of the national industry in this field". The document also notes that "as far as the European defence industry is concerned more generally, the Strategic Compass noted that the multiplicity of weapons systems adopted on a national basis and the consequent fragmentation of the production base represent a serious obstacle to overcoming Europe's military capability deficiencies". Investing in technological cooperation Among the objectives indicated in the document are to invest in military technological cooperation and to integrate NATO's defence function with its own autonomous capacity to intervene in crisis situations outside the range of action of the Atlantic Alliance but potentially destabilising for the Union. "The idea of unified intelligence for EU member states remains impassable – according to the document – just as the idea of a European army is impractical. However, there remains the need to improve synergies for the management of information flows, also enhancing the participation of Italy and other Member States in some for a of collaboration on the subject such as Quint and Fourteen Eyes. It is also essential to overcome the condition of energy dependence.
