Cybersecurity, the Viminale: "Attacks at +78.5% in a year"

The cyber attacks that were recorded from July 31, 2021 to August 1, 2022 are a total of 8,814, 78.5% more than those that had been detected in the previous year. This is what emerges from the data published by the Viminale during the traditional mid-August meeting of the National Committee for Public Order and Security, which was chaired by the Minister of the Interior, Luciana Lamorgese.
The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary of the Interior Nicola Molteni, the Head of cabinet of the Viminale, the Operational Commander of the Interforce Summit (Covi), the Chief of Police and Director General of Public Security, the general commanders of the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza, the head of the Department of Penitentiary Administration (Dap), the heads of the Dis, Aisi and Aise , the Head of the Department of Civil Protection, the Head of the Department of Fire Brigade, Public Rescue and Civil Defense and the Head of the National Fire Brigade, the Head of the Department for Civil Liberties and Immigration of the Viminale, the Commander General of the Corps of the Port Authorities – Coast Guard and the Director of the National Agency for the administration and destination of assets seized and confiscated from organized crime. During the meeting, moreover, the minister connected with the Hall of the Civil Protection Department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and with some territorial garrisons of the State Police, the Carabinieri, the Guardia di Finanza, the Penitentiary Police, the Port Authority and the National Fire Brigade.
Specifically on computer security, the dossier published by the Viminale shows that the cybersecurity alerts issued in a year until the first of August were 114,939, compared to 102,517 in the previous 12 months. With regard to anti-terrorism prevention, i.e. the prevention of international subversion of religious and political extremism, 67,167 web content was monitored from 1 August 2021 to 31 July 2022, while 258 were obscured. As for online child pornography, the sites on the black list in the period 1 August 2021-31 July 2022 were 2,595, the searches 1,386, the arrests 150 and the reported 1,212.
